Hey Bill, does Airflo make a Ridge Int. running line or are you just using the the floating? I have a spool of the floating orange 30lb. that I was going to use for my spey rods in winter but I ended up like the handling and shooting of their miracle braid better.

+1 on the smaller flies, they told me to tie up some smaller clousers like 3" for the forebay and they seemed to work well. Would love to hit the delta with you, I can work something out for during the week if that's when you're fishing.

The int Ridge is a light blue, which is what I use. It sinks, but not super quickly, so intermediate is about right.

Not really fishing weekdays most of the time - just got lucky yesterday. Very slow fishing though.

But the Airflow did well in the cold weather, so there's that, although we don't have to worry about it very often!

I'll have to see if the fly shop has the int. Ridge and try it out on the Forebay Sunday. Love slickshooter for distance but not so much for handling and it gets blown around in the slightest breeze. I think if I stick with slickshooter then some fingers or cones would help alot in the wind, with something like the Ridge I think just piling it up in front of me would be fine.

Hopefully the water will be warming up by Sunday and the stripes will be hungry after a prolonged cold spell. Will launch by powerline islands or check 12 if anyone else is heading out.

I can cast the Ridge line as far as I can cast any other line which is a good distance.  It works great for me, I have 2 reels with it on them.

Only complaint is that it cuts into my finger joint from stripping, but I just use a finger guard.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

You might want to check out the Airflo Gripshooter shooting line.  It has fly line diameter at the business end and a Slickshooter type mono after 15' or so.

I know this doesn't directly address your line management question but, it may help.  It seems like mono shooting line gets tangled on everything.  If nothing else, it a lot easier to shoot.
