I'm in the process of mounting an Eagle Cuda 250 GPS/fishfinder on a Prowler 15. I want it to be as close to me as possible without getting in the way, so I can use the GPS. I have a ram mount too. I saw that somebody mentioned mounting a fishfinder on the sloping center console between the footwells. That area is slightly concave, so I'm a little concerned it won't be watertight. I was considering mounting it in the flat tackle box area in front of the cupholder. The are also two flat areas in front of the footwells, but they seem too far away to operate the GPS. Any ideas / comments?

Thanks!

Well, I got no suggestions, so I mounted the ram mount on the sloping section between the footwells. The ram mount has a smaller base than the fishfinder, so it seems to have sealed up pretty tight with well nuts and some marine goop.

I just mounted the exact same setup on my Outback on the gunwale next to the cupholder. It's nice and close but in the way when I paddle (when I paddle that is). I think you chose the right spot though, that seems like the best spot.

I'm planning on taking it out on Loch Lomond today for its first test run.  The GPS seems to work well just walking around the yard with it.

I'd keep this area clear of any clutter - if you ever land a big fish, you'll be pulling that fish on top of that area - to secure and subdue it.

IMO: that's the ideal place for a FF....yes, you have to scoot up to operate the FF....but how often do you really need to "operate it". It's just a matter of turning it on and off.

For the GPS: I suggest getting the waterproof case that you can strap on top of your thigh....unfortunately the case itself can only cater to a certain shapes of the GPS unit (I have a Garmin MAP60 - it cannot fit the case)

Yeah, I decided that it would get in the way in the tackle box area. I ended up putting it on the sloped area between the footwells, just in front of the tackle box area toward the bow. It's completely out of the way, but with the ram mount, I can actually reach up and operate it without getting out of the seat. It can also be moved farther out of the way toward the bow if necessary, since the ram mount can swivel. Since it has a GPS and route tracer, it's nice to be able to reach out and hit the buttons.

I took it out today on Loch Lomond, and it worked perfectly. The transponder is mounted in a chunk of foam that is gooped to the boat. It fits snug in a cut-out in the foam. All I put in the cut-out was a little water. No goop, no vaseline, and it worked fine. The deepest spot was 115 feet, just what it says on the topo map of the lake. The GPS worked great, too. I could even split the screen and use the GPS and the fish finder at the same time. Next trial will be out on the ocean.
