My wife had to work today so we did our Christmas yesterday. That gave me a free day off from work, hmm, what to do? I know, go fishing!  :smt007 I headed back out to Shag Slough to give it another try. Today I decided I wanted to check out Cache Slough above Shag Slough. So I headed down to French Island and turned right. Cache Slough is a lot shallower than I thought from looking at it. I paddled well past the high voltage lines and didn't see any signs of sturgeon. Nothing on the FF and no jumping or rolling fish. Very few other boats on the water today. The weather was so nice it was like paddling in a swimming pool. Since I wasn't seeing any sturgeon, I decided to head back in the other direction so I would be a little closer to my launch. I anchored up outside the opening to the flooded area across from French Island thinking the tide would rush out of there. I was wrong. The outgoing tide was hardly noticeable. Since I was looking to fish a stronger current, I decided to move. I headed into the flooded area to cross back to Shag Slough. It was a couple hours past high tide maybe, and the water in there was running around 3-4 feet deep. I crossed over and hung a left on Shag Slough and anchored up where the first break in the Liberty Island levee is, coming from the bridge. That spot has a good strong current on the outgoing tide. Lots of swirls and eddies. Unfortunately it didn't help any. Nothing. I piddled around  trying to learn something about jigging for bass here and there on my way back also for nada. All together it was about an 11 1/2 mile paddle. Maybe it's time to try a different spot.  :smt012

Great write up. If its consistent catching you want, shag is not a friend.  But for a nice paddle its pretty good, as you now know :)

Winter delta is tough, way to put in the effort.
Less Mental than before, Still savage AF tho <3

I forgot to add that as I neared the bridge over Shag Slough I passed a PB trolling with 3 guys that said they got 5 Stripers. I don't know where they got them though. I know I am just beginning to learn and get the gear I need to have a decent chance when I go out. So far my trolling has consisted of throwing a lure out, letting out some line and hoping. I wonder what areas near me do produce fish on a regular basis. From what I've read the port o sac is also hit and miss. Beldens Landing, Suisun City, Napa River?
