Thanks everyone for all the advice.  I think I’ll start by trying out several of the models suggested and by selling the near-new OK Tetra 10 Angler that I bought for my ex-girlfriend to use.

I think the Trident series are the shizzle. I have a T13 and have experienced very little leakage when flipping the boat multiple times during self rescue practice. I'd say definitely less than a gallon for sure, and that's with the old school pod hatch. A lot of guys do swear by the p15's like Scott said. Storage is less accessible than the trident, but speed is the trade off.

BTW, I'm looking for one if anyone is looking to unload a P15.  :smt007

+1 on Trident hatch and rod pod sealing, I put the newer style rod pod on and it makes a very good seal. I remember having Moose straddling the front of my yak during our little adventure. While we debated our next move he was sitting on my front hatch which swamped the entire front of the yak and about 6" of the rod pod.

When we got back to shore I was surprised at how little water was in the hull, much less than his Outback but he had a few very recent "holes" in his...

Another thing I love about the Trident and Prowlers is the weight. Depending where you use it, it could be a big consideration.

I have had my X-factor since May 2013 and there is well over 80 trips on her. She is a very stable platform but keeps leaking from different spots. The first spot cracked above the rudder mount, it was an easy fix but only two months old. The second spot is the front hatch cover which can not be tightened down to be completely water tight. The third spot the scupper beneath the seat cracked twice which I have fixed each time. The only problem now is I am worried about going offshore as we spend much of the spring and summer months between 2-5 miles from shore. I have heard Malibu's customer service is not great, so I would recommend a name brand kayak that has excellent customer service. Also you should not get a kayak less than 12' if you plan on going back into the salt. Good luck. :smt006
