I would think that changing the profile of the kayak from narrow seal/sea lion shape would be more effective than a "shark shield". Add an outrigger of sorts with a tramp and the shark no longer sees his customary prey shape.

I run my AI with one outrigger and trampoline the majority of time because it is a superior fishing platform but it does change the silhouette and is a more survivable platform if you do get hit and the hull is breached. The skiffs don't get hit in the same areas so you probably only need 4-5' in width is enough.

We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.

I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center.

People aren’t supposed to look back. I’m certainly not going to do it anymore.”

I agree with GB 2 about the outrigger/trampoline. I personally wouldn't want to go out there in "skinny" mode.  Might not make much difference in all situations but at least you have more room to scramble around on deck. Kind of a security blanket of sorts. Then again, without the trampolines the rig could look like mama seal with one/two pups swimming next to it...

No guarantees no matter what you do though.

This video is a more horizontal "attack" by a Great White vs the NorCal Polaris missile/up-from-the-deep launch type attack.

So I guess we won't see you Nor Cal guys at moonstone beach. That happens to be my favorite place. I was afraid of bean hollow till I read it has the same amount of attacks. I do own a shark shield and will use it. Mainly for piece of mind. And now that we have had one in moonstone it will be awhile before another one.

I used to fish moonstone every year, but since rhyak started his group the pressure on the area tripled which is why there have been more attacks. Same thing happened at BH. The sharks were always there and more kayaks increases the probability of an encounter. It's a probability thing. After the third attack, most people stopped fishing the bean and no further attacks. We have a lot of options to catch rockfish so most people drive a little farther to fish less sharky areas. Unfortunately for salmon you have to fish them where they are so on the chrome hunt I did fish some sharky areas. Of course you are in a fleet of PBs and kayaks.  :smt005 Having a kayak fishing tournament at Leffingwell in September, the peak shark attack month, well let's just say, I won't be there even with a shark shield. It's just rockfish and I don't need another kayak.
