I went crabbing for the 1st time at Baker Beach today. The beach was VERY crowded with anglers using crab snares. I saw them pick up a few here and there. Out in my yak I caught a record number of crab (80...and I should add that this trip was my 3rd ever), but almost all of them were 2in or smaller. I did get several keeper red rock crab, but I'm not a big fan so I let them go too. Overall, I had 6 legal dungies, but 3 of them were females (loaded with eggs), so I took home 3. I dumped my kayak 2 out of my 4 landing attempts...it provided great entertainment for everyone on shore :). I should add that everyone was calling today a great day for baker beach...I would hate to catch it on a bad day. It was a great day though, the best part was while I was packing up - I saw several people checking out the 4-5 harbor porpoises about 100 yards out from the beach. I had no idea they were common to that area. They were really fun to watch.

Thanks for the report. Baker can be great for dungies. Haven't been out there myself this year, though; sounds like they still need to grow a little.
Baker can be tough launch/landing -- steep beach. Dumping is a learning experience! Just never ever let the kayak get between you and the wave. Trust me on that one...

My first two outtings were at Doran and I loved it there...just looking for a change of scenery. I'll definitely have to try HMB soon.

Thank you! That sounds like some good advice...which I was obviously lacking yesterday.
