The bait so close it unlikley the salmon were in there. It looked more like July 4th than August 24th out there. If it were July 4th we would all be catching salmon with the amount of bait.

Hopefully there are some Salmon in the mix.  About 11 years ago, when I started college I remember coming home from Soccer practice and decided to head to the Pacifica Peir were I spent the majority of my summer Salmon fishing.  It was about this time of year if not a little later and after a pretty slow salmon season ( but not this slow)the peir was taking on 20-200 fish perday for about two weeks.

Probably won't happen this year but I thought I would plant the seed of hope.

jason- a true fisherman.....always hopeful.

For the most part, we are a pretty optomistic bunch.

Allen,
We have to be optimists by nature. I mean think about the effort and expense we go to to attempt to catch something we could just buy at a Fish Market for far less cost, time, and effort albeit not as fresh though. When you add up the total cost of the kayak & gear, sonar, tackle, PFD & clothing, gasoline, racks, and time it only makes sense if we love it and we are optimistic we can do better than the market catch. No pessimist would go to the expense or time or effort on a such a chance. You have to love being out there, the thrill of a strike, and accomplishment of a good day's catch even if released. I had days on the Carson river nymphing where I was 0 for 10 landings/strikes-hooked. But I never had a better time anyway. Even when I got skunked,  I just love being out there whether it's a lake, a stream, a river, a bay, or the ocean and being high on hope the whole time. I think we all think similarly--though its nice to keep that skink off  :smt001

Somebody on coastside said something about water temps dropping
Water temp on my dive watch yesterday in the LM bay was about 57 +. Definitely has come down from the over-60 temps of a couple of weeks ago.
