So i was dinging through my pics cleaning out some of the crap and found this pic :smt010
of the ARW boat ramp this was a 25 mph wind right out of the west that picked up at 1pm
the morning was nice and calm and clear them BAM someone turned on the fan :smt009
we had to surf land this one right on the ramp for a ruff landing ouch :smt013

So what do I mean when I say death awaits? what if you flipped your kayak
as you were landing? your head could hit the "pavement" witch also has deep ridges to tare your head open
or you could break a shoulder or worse :jawdrop

just because it's a surf landing in the bay don't mean it's safe
be careful out there.

this has been a public service announcement

lb. for lb., tha Bay is more dangerous than the Ocean …  it's those winds that can come from anywhere. I always watch how far I stray and if was me taking on that Cement launch, I would have done something else…  the inside Harbor would have been a trek and also may not have been wise to head out there again, but you should have been able to land at the HS and hoof it…

Kudos to you for a bit risk taking and making it...

When you took that picture you were looking south.  I've gone down there to launch before (didn't do it) and with the wind out of the south it has the whole length of the south bay to build up those waves.  The only other way to land would have been to go inside the first wall and land on the beach where the war canoes launch.

We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.

I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center.

Even worse are the ferry boat wakes at Paradise that come out of nowhere.

I agree that the bay is much more dangerous than the ocean. I've had way more "Oh shit!" Moments in the bay than anywhere else.

Like that time we launched at China camp? If you got separated from the kayak it would have been pretty dicey. Cameron knows about that cment ramp  at paradise.

The epic one was over by the airport. You, Chuck and myself. The rain wasn't all that bad but when it started hailing I was done.

Even Redwood City can get some waves going in there, nothing like that, but the wind can come in howling there as well.  Anything south of SFO in the Summer time/Fog season and your on your own out there.

That ramp is scary-slippery-death-waiting-to-happen at low tide even when the water is like glass. Was ice skating trying to launch my yak last time I was there
