I was looking at the tide chart for Morro Bay along with the beach cam and figured the conditions were too nice to pass up. So I hit the beach. I arrived just after the low tide, later than I wanted to. I managed a couple of little perch in the first hour or two. I got a report from a surfer/fly fisherman that I needed to tie on a deceiver and hit the rock because there were some stripers schooled up close.  ::)  You have to check it out right? I never saw any stripers but did spot lots of leopard sharks, makes you wonder. By now there was lots of shade from the rock on the water and I decided to fish the rips that were between the shade and the sunny water. Bingo! I found the fish.  The fishing only got better as the sun got lower. I fished one rip from 3:30 till near dark. The bite was wide open, with most fish in the 6-10" range. This is the third double in a row, with back to back casts.
A fish of a different color.
Hot flies for the afternoon the Morro Comet and the Root Beer Sink.
What a great way to end a day.

Total fish count minimum 60 probably way more, every cast was attacked. 7 sets of doubles , not counting foul hooked fish.

Sweet, looks awesome. Those flies are very nice too. What setup are you throwing in the surf?

I am using an 8 wt with integrated sinking tip, intermediate running line. I have been using three feet of 15 lb to a small three way swivel. Then six inches of 20 lb mono on one side and three feet of 8 pound mono on the remaining side. The 20 lb helps keep the top fly away from the 8 lb leader.
This is similar in concept I believe to Ken Hanley's rig, he uses a single swivel with dropper loops and sometimes a third fly. The rig I use is an adaptaion of the rig taught to me by a fishing buddy down in San Diego Bay with great success. (Thanks Richard C.)

Nice going, glad to see they are around.  I might have to make a trip to the surf this weekend for some perch action.

I use a three fly system with dropper loops, no swivels.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

Thanks for the info, I'll have to give that a shot. I do the dropper loop thing but not a big fan of that knot, quit using it altogether on the yak after losing a couple of big lings.  SPRO makes some small swivels that would probably good for this.
