mooch:

I am dropping my family off at SF airport Early Sat morning (like 4:30am).  My plan is to take 92 over to 1 and head down.  I am checking Bean Hollow or Pigeon.  If neither looks inviting, it will be Davenport, I guess.

Maybe we could chat later today, look at the possibility of meeting?

It's a small town just a few miles north of Santa Cruz.
I haven't fished there so don't know where everyone launches but I used to surf it (too many shark incidents to continue). There's an area where cars park on the side of the freeway and a trail that goes out to the beach a few hundred yards to the south of the town.

Wheres Davenport?

Ben - Davenport is about 20 minutes NORTH of Santa Cruz - about 40 minutes SOUTH of HMB. It a small side road out off HWY1 just before the Cement Plant....that's if your coming from HMB.

The launch is almost always protected from the wind and swells  :smt023 :smt023 :smt023

Mooch,
I'm a maybe for a rendezvous there Sat morning.
I know where the cement plant is, but never checked-out any paths to the beach. Is it "cartable" the whole way from the side road near HWY 1?

Craig - there's a couple of stairways that lead to the beach from the parking lot - carts, I think, are useless. The lot get's full sometimes (from the surfers) so get there by 6AM.

...so I bought into the Berkley Gulp Hype and bought 2 packs of the plastic 5-inch squid "THAT'S SUPPOSE TO OUTFISH LIVE BAIT" = 400X MORE SCENT DISPERTION :smt007. For $5.99 for a pack of 3.....there better be some good results by the end of the trip   :smt002

Anyone familiar with the "Gulp"????

I think "gulp" is filipino for "sucka",  :smt003. seems like a good thing to bring to baja or something but why not just bring a block of frozen squid if you can get it?  :smt017  I have some gulp crabs, I tossed a 1" one out in the surf, nothing hit it.
But mooch, I think you could catch fish with a roll of toilet paper so maybe it will work for you.

surfer prediction: no surf this weekend, davenport should be fairly free of surfers. might be some huge sharks tho.  :smt011

Mooch- look for my car on the way down at Bean hollow or the little side road North of the lighthouse at Pigeon.

i'll have the radio on 69.

For others unsure.....The best launch spot is Davenport landing.  You can see it on a map.  Just north of the little town of davenport, about a mile, is a loop side road that goes out to a cove called Davenport landing.  the road, I think, is called Davenport landing Road.  it's the only left you can take 1 mile north of town.  road loops out then loops back to hwy 1.

park at the bottom, and the beach is right there.

I might be paddling out there as well on Saturday, sttill looking for my halibut (this beard is getting itchy, and too many are calling me "Santa."

Mooch called me and wanted to relay to anyone that might care that he is launching at Pigeon Point tomorrow morning, not Davenport.
