My first report! This is a very cool community and I look forward to hitting the water with many of you!

I've been crabbing pillar point pretty hard ever since I realized my old crappy Pelican kayak could so easily get me my limits, and finally ditched that thing and got me a Hobie.

So yes, last week was probably my best day out there. It looked like a hotel swimming pool... hardly any swell and glass on top of the water. I got a few real close swim-bys by some dolphin. I went about 1km south of the jetty opening and 1km out from shore in what my android app told me was 50' of water and dropped my brand spankin' new Promar collapsable traps (the rectangular shaped ones) with a chicken leg in the provided bait net and squid in some bait cups. I let two of them soak out there for about an hour and a half. Meanwhile, a tangle in the line for my third trap forced me to drop it a little shallower, along with my ring in about 25' of water. I landed so that I could have a quick meal with my family, and then set back out.

When I came back out after about 45 min, my ring (which only had one chicken leg, tied in with twine) had FOUR KEEPERS. I'd never had more than two before in a ring, and I was regretting not bringing my other one out. The three promar traps had 7 more (the shallow one had 3, so that means 7 crab in my two shallow water traps), so in that short amount of time I had already reached my limit. My largest was nearly 7 1/4". None were under 6". What a fantastic day!

Sorry I don't have any pictures or video, maybe next time... Ciao for now!

Welcome and congrats on a good day of crabbing.  I prefer rings to traps personally, I take 4 and set up a moving grid so I check each ring every 10 min or so and move it about 50 feet.  This keeps me active and I cover a lot of ground very thoroughly this way.
