As far as i can tell, after a few trips, there are no actual fish in tomales bay.  :smt002

However, after reading everyones tips here i ordered two foldable crab traps and gave it a go today for the first time. I just baited them with leftover turkey bones/parts and let them sit for a couple of hours while i fished. It was no problem to assemble, bait, and drop while floating.  But dealing with mr claws was too much, as one of them took a chunk out of my finger and i decided to head for shore to measure after losing one.

Way to get out there and give it a shot! Right now, it's the bottomof the "5yr Cycle" for Dungies; so don't get discouraged!

one important note: Measure you crab on the water, if they are short, you MUST release them before you are on shore; or face the potential of a citiation from DFG.

Also, another tip: if you are getting Rock crabs, you are probably close to a reef or rock pile; and probably need to move you pot.

Go Get'em!!!

Good effort.  I look forward to trying it myself.  Gotta be faster than the crab when sorting them. :smt044

Grab'em by their back pair of legs. That way they can't get you. If it looks like the claws are getting close, just drop it and start over. I've learned the hard way to not just start grabbing them!
