I figure if I fall in and get separated from my kayak or can't self rescue for some reason, I can swim to shore. Since I am fishing the delta, shore is never too far away. One problem with that plan is that some places you can't walk out of. I wouldn't want to swim ashore only to die from exposure because I am trapped. I dug out my emergency Bivy sack I got for backpacking. It weighs 3.8 oz and fits in my pants pocket. It is made from space blanket type material and reflects 90% of your body heat back to you. It could be the only way to get warm in the event of a disaster.

Guitarzan Ben made a set of pants out of one of those that he uses for paddling when its cold.  He slips em over everything he's wearing and stays toasty all day, sweet idea!

That's a good idea, however, for a few $ more you can put together something like this.  I have in the kit, these items plus many more, a "Space blanket", waterproof "Jet" lighter, fire tinder, duct tape, a pocket saw, 50' paracord A tube of "Sting eze" for mosquito bites, a granola bar, and multi-tool, I also stuffed a small sized water proof bag, in the kit, however the kit case its self is not waterproof.  It weighs in around a pound.
This kit goes with me everywhere.
