I thought about putting this in fishing reports, because I caught (photographed and released) three micro-sized halibut today but the truth is ... I was just out for an afternoon adventure ... just goofin' around, so I'm putting it here instead.

But there WILL be pictures of surfer girls in bikinis, dolphins, and micro-sized halibut.    :smt045

We're remodeling two bathrooms in our place and I currently can't get to my kayak because the garage is full of the contractor's tools and materials.  I haven't been able to get out for the past two weeks.  So this afternoon, instead of going to the YMCA to work out after my morning gig (church organist) I decided to grab some light tackle and walk down to the Cabrillo Beach Pier to play.

Lots of rules here, and it is well patrolled.

I always forget how pretty it is down here, especially on the "outside".

As I walked out towards the pier I was enjoying the scenery.  Can you see the dolphins in the picture below?  :smt004

I didn't think so.  Here, look closer.

Still having trouble? ... Tell you what, I'll just start clicking and you keep watching.

Ah -- the scenery  :smt007 ... believe it or not, the dolphins are in the shot below but difficult to see looking into the sun.  There were quite a few of them in that pod and they were in very close to shore, I suspect chasing some bait.  I wish I could have been out there in my yak.

Alright, enough distractions, let's get down to the pier.  Here's the Federal Breakwater.

And your warning signs about what is safe to eat from the harbor.  BTW I do eat the barred sand bass and barracuda. --   :smt009

The pier is a popular place on Sunday afternoon. I decided to stroll the length to see what folks were catching.

When I got to the far end I decided to rig up with this and bounce it along the bottom as I walked the length back.

OMG -- I thought I would catch perch or smelt, but no -- micro-sized halibut!

This one has a small parasite (worm) on it, so I removed that before releasing the fish.

Well, THAT WAS FUN! especially on my ultra light tackle. I caught (photographed and released) three of the little buggers just walking the length of the pier.  It was not what I expected, but fun!

Fishing in the heart of LA Harbor is not the get-away experience I love, and I'd prefer to be in out my hobie ... but for an Sunday afternoon outing this was not bad ... not bad at all.   :smt004

Thanks for reading my silly report.   :smt005   I'll be up in Humboldt County in November and I'm bringing the hobie with me.  Hope to see you up there in a few weeks!

BTW -- It seems that if you click on the pictures, they apparently will reload from photobucket and be somewhat larger.  (The pictures, not the fish.)   :smt044

Good report, Dave.  Need better shots of the 'dolphins' though...   :smt001
