Need advice and direction: big island July 2014

The wife and mother inlaw have conspired and it looks like I'll be taking two weeks in the middle of our north coast salmon season off to go to Hawaii. I'm green lighted to fish 5 days, I've never been there. I need ideas and contacts.

Where do I get a kayak for a week?
Fishing tackle?  What do I need and where to get it?
What's biting?  Any shouldn't miss fish or spots?
Anything else I need to know?

Planning early and hoping to get excited.

Contact Andy1976 and he can give you the details. Honaunau is doable solo if the conditions are good and a really cool launch but south point is sketchy solo unless you are a local. You can buy frozen opelu in the local markets which is a good bait to troll. Ulua and wahoo are the more common kayak targets. Tuna more of a long shot depending on the season. Ulua is the ultimate fighter IMHO and decent eating. Wish I could be there. Love the big island.
