I don't personally understand this, but that is just me. (this is me just cracking a joke don't take it personally anyone) but maybe ya'll should lift some weights  :smt002 because unless you are casting a surf pole all day long i don't see how a pole that is a couple of ounces would "wear someone out" (ok ok add a few ozs for a reel). this split grip thing is mostly about looks i would assume because the weight that is lost from not putting cork on it is minuscule and would not honestly make a difference between you being tired or not...

Don't catch too many fish huh?

What I was told from one of the guy that builds custom rods told me that the other material is cheaper and the cost of quality cork material is getting expensive. Not to step on anyone's toes but I had a carrot stik with the spilt grip and I did not like it.it just didn't sit right in my hand.so I gave it away and went back to my crucial.just my .02 cents

I don't target any species where "finess" is important so build all of my rods with full cork grips, fresh and salt. Personally I think split grips are ugly but Here is the advantages:

That is how i feel as well Great Bass...
I am just mad that they arent at least keep the "old style" as an option. this breaks my heart.
it is alomost engrained into the pastimes of this country between father and son... I dont think i have ever seen a "moment" between father & son where they are sitting on the bank hanging out talking to eachother and they are bobber fishing in some pond with a split grip pole... lol im just so bitter inside about this. Maybe i should go eat a Snickers...

One of my favorite species and season is spotted bass in the dead of winter. Fish can be anywhere from 10-90 feet and most of the time a bite will feel like a spongy rock at best. I'll take all the rod sensitivity I can get.

And rods and reels have never had to be aesthetically pleasing to me personally. I don't buy a reel because its shiny and red, and then go buy a " matching " rod because it has some red on it. Performance for my budget trumps all imo.

I can understand that, and yeah like i had said before... to each their own. if performance and sensitivity is your wheelhouse, then that's what it is. I cant hate on that

I hate the feel of cork, always have. My first new rod that I got, was  a Sears/Ted Williams with a foam grip.  I still have it, and it the foam is now over 30 years old, and it is still holding up (which to be honest kinda of surprises me).

Since I don't hold the rod by the middle of the grip while fishing, and the grip length is just for leverage (IMO), I don't much care.  If I was out fishing trying to look good, I wouldn't be out there ;)

I think that for the longer (8.5'+) casting centric rods like SST, cork seems a better choice.  but I don't know why...

Though, some of the split grips do give the rod a kinda Sci-fi look, so I like those.

If you don't like what is available, build your own.  Or buy the rod you want and strip the grip and seat then put your choice back on...
