After being out on the water a few times surrounded by pbs and water skiers,I decided I needed to make myself more visible. With funds being tight I needed to do something budget friendly. So after searching a bunch of online forums all I could find were pvc and tape ideas,I wanted some thing a little nicer.I finally found a diy go pro mount on a forum, and thats where the idea came from for my build.
  list of materials
yak attack mighty mount 10.
targus tg-mp6710 mono pod 15. walmart
night light 3. lowes
led flashlight 3. osh
garage door bolts 3. osh
(will be switching to a yak attack bolt as soon as i can get to headwaters)
3/4 pvc end cap osh 1.

The first thing i did after opening the mono pod was slide up the foam grip and remove the three small screws and removed the end cap. From the back side of the end cap I drilled it thru removing the molded in stud (not shown)I then tapped it 1/4-20 thru from the front side and reattacthed it.
(see pic 1 and 2)
Next was the other end I screwd the rubber foot on as far as it  would go and cut off the ground spike.Leaving only the threaded stud.
(see pic 3 and 4)
Then came the light I took apart the night light I had bought and trimmed the plastic cover to fit snugly on top of the flashlight.
(see pic 5)
I took the pvc cap and painted it black then drilled and tapped the end 8x1.25 mm to match the threaded stud on the mono pod.
(see pic 6)
The flashlight is a good snug fit into the pvc and screws right on to the mono pod.
(see pic 7)
I threaded the garage bolt into the end I had tapped added a orange safety flag and attached to the mighty mount. With that I was done quick cheap and easy and comes on and off in seconds.

Hard to tell, but it looks like most of the light energy is going straight up to the ceiling, not horizontally out to other craft.

Maybe put a small, round mirror inside the top of that diffuser pointing down to the light.  It would reflect the light going straight up and back down and to the sides...

Now if only that plastic flag had some metal so you can be seen on radar. My fear is heavy fog and power boats. good looking rig all the same.

My DIY flag is the simplest one yet!  Orange hankie attached to my spare rod with close pins!  Works great.  I have a small clip on flash light for when it's dark.
