Planning to make a trip out to half moon myself, but company is always welcome.
Haven't met to many peeps from ncka.  I'm still a guppie, maybe someone can show me the ropes. I'll be on channel 69 and rolling in a PA 14. Launching from the old pier about 7:30am.

Biggest rock crab I ever pulled in was by the old pier, they get pretty big there, be advised, you will also pull in a lot of sea weed gunk too.

there is a good spot of south jetty on outside where there is a patch of sand and have seen lots of people get limits on dungies. about 30-40 yards off jetty. about 3/4 of way out. Good luck.

Do you think it's a good idea to drop pots right there at the harbor entrance?   It seems a bit dangerous and inconsiderate.

Good point Eric B, a fouled prop at the entrance would not be fun at all, nor would it earn us any Harbor Patrol Bonus Points.

It can also be disastrous for the PB and all on board.

Rock crabs are scary.  They are fast and attack fingers like spiders.
Be careful. I heard that they pinch harder than dungies.
There is a guy selling them in the harbor all year.

I see people dropping pots along there all the time. I have to aggree though it is a bit close to jaws of jetties. More for if your casting snares off south jetty.

I wouldn't drop near the entrance,  there would be a lot of pissed off peeps. Im going to the mavericks area. Have lots of new gear to try. Some ambush nets vs the tr-632. A new lexa 300 to break in, kokatat goretex  drysuit,  a john beath rod. So rock fish and crab is the goal.
Hell, maybe track down some hali's.
