The screen is pretty small on the X4
I think you get a bigger bang for you buck with the humminbird 500 series. Bigger screen and dual beam Try the 561.
I believe the mount is interchangeable with the 300 and 700 series if you decide to upgrade.  There is also the inexpensive Hummininbird Pirhanna series, but they use a different mount

The x-4 Pro is a dual beam, 4" display .... fyi  Cost less than $100

If this is a NEW installation, don't forget to factor in the cost of battery, mount, etc...  Those parts can quickly add up to another $50+ depending on type of mount.

The Mark 5x PRO is a great unit for those not wanting to spend the cash to go color.  480x480 pixel rate, 5" screen, dual frequency 83/200 transducer for lake & ocean use.  For $160 the Mark 5x Pro is a solid unit.

As for DSI .... that all depends on where you plan to use this.  DSI is GREAT in freshwater down to 100-150 feet.  If you plan on using it in saltwarer, the DSI optimal zone is 40-80 feet.  I've hit deeper but the detail will start to drop off.  If you buy a DSI only unit, you are limited to DSI only.  The NEW Lowrance Elite 5 HDI has both Broadband (83/200 or 50/200) AND DSI (455/800).  What does this mean?  No longer do you have to choose between DSI or Broadband ... it has both built in.  1 unit can work as well in freshwater shallows with DSI detail as it does in deep saltwater salmon/rock fish.  The DSI & Broadband only units (Lowrance Elite 5x, 5x DSI, 5 & 5 DSI are all being replaced with the Elite 5 HDI).

If you fish mostly saltwater, in depths over 80 foot (normally), I would not suggest the DSI (as a primary unit).  The DSI works great in the shallow(er) water for reefs, etc.  It still targets in the deeper water but I prefer the image on the standard broadband better in deeper water.  On the new Elite 5 HDI, you can overlay DSI on top of broadband & have it ALL!

The GPS will mark waypoints as you have mentioned.  It will also show you your drift pattern & be your lifesaver in the fog.
