Just wanted to share my first yak landed salmon.

38 inches long, 34 pounds.

I caught this beauty half mile north of Star Bend (feather river). Yes I paddled against the current upstream, I figured to catch a salmon I must learn to be one - that or lack of IQ (I'm sticking with the first statement).

What I would do is paddle past the mob I pegged on my ff and drift and jig. After an hour or so of doing this I hooked up this female. The battle took over an hour with her jumping and towing me around. Keep in mind all the boaters around me were cheering me on. I learned quite a bit especially in the landing aspect. She was swimming circles around my boat causing me to hang up on my other rods. In my attempt to grab my net I snagged my other rod and ended up cutting the line and was freely hanging in my net.

Needless to say I was beat after landing her, see fish porn below.

The foul hook you see was caused by my snagged lure "I know - rookie!" But hey I'm learning ;)

Thanks!

PS: big thanks to my cousin Jesse for helping rig the yak up and Mark for all of his expert advice!

That's great.   One of these days I'll get to do that.

Lol happy to help, I have to say I under-estimated the current, gets tricky to keep a tight line, and maneuver a kayak. I'll be making some modifications next time I'm out as well as picking up a hand paddle for steering purposes.
