Hey guys,

A friend of mine down south asked if I could get him some info. Is a kayak touring trip feasible from Cambria paddling south? 15-20 miles?

Just wondering if anyone has experience in these waters?

Any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

Joe

So is he launching from Leffingwell, Cambria, and landing at Cayucos beach? Both the launch and landing are very doable. The coast has very thick kelp beds with a couple emergency bail outs along the way. The wind picks up big time in the afternoon there, so do the paddle in the morning.

A good book is Adventure Kayaking, trips from Big Sur to San Diego.  It has the routes from Cambria to Avila listed with all the landings and some of the fishing spots.

I agree with Krusty.  The wind really picks up around 12:00.  Most guys launch at daylight and are off the water by noon.  That is the hardest thing about fishing here, the wind.

The shark sighting are beginning.  Tell your friend to be careful.

Has been on my scope for years and gonna try and plan one later this year. Weather is always something that makes any trex no mater where you are a concern.

Cambria to Cayucos is about 16 mile paddle from leff landing to the pier in cayucos. With about a 10-12 mile stretch with out a real bail out location except for extremely primitive, small beach camping.

But completely do able...

Want to really get with it, buddy that runs Central Coast SUP is about to paddle pt. sur to Morro bay on there SUPS now that's a paddle.
