I'd save the irons till you get the drop & retrieve technique down to a science in the kelp.  I've lost my share while learning.

On irons, cut off the treble hook and replace with one larger single hook.  Gamakatsu makes single crimp on hooks, simple and it will save a few snags.

I prefer the straight treble for iron, ime there's a higher hook up ratio and that far exceeds the value of a couple lost jigs. I usually swap that little steel treble out for a larger sized bronze hook (owner or mustad).  Save the plastics for the kelp.

+1, more hook ups and its easier to straighten out the bronze treble if need be. Saves $$ on iron.

ahhh the bronze i see i see. so after the straightening of the hook just replace it or snip that one hook off since it has lost its backbone as far as strength goes? or can you usually get away with re bendinging it back to wher it was originally and will that still have enough strength back in it to catch another one?
