I like to learn as much as i can by trial and error but youtube is such a wealth of information that i can help but turn to it for my guidance. everyone is talking about mooching this mooching that so i wondered if there was a way to tie the rigs yourself...and of course there is . this video does a very good job at teaching you how to tie your own at home. I had a way of doing it different to this way but this way is much easier and it allows you to more accurately place that second hook higher up on the leader. for all us noobies out there, take a look, this is a great video. this rig is good for regular bait fishing as well. i use it for striper fishing when i have some bait in the water.

For salmon, watch out for keeping the top eye within 5" of the bottom curve - it's a smaller rig than you'd think and kinda hard to pin a herring or chovie on it.

This is almost, but not quite, the same technique, with very good photos of each step.  I've caught some big fish using this snell, so I think it's pretty strong:

http://www.pierandsurf.com/fishing-forum/showthread.php?71122-Snelling-a-hook-(or-two-or-a-half-dozen)

Use some spit to lubricate the line as it's cinching up - it pulls through easier and avoids possible abrasion.  And be careful to check that the loop doesn't get turned around the bottom of the hook as it's pulled tight - if it does, you'll see a half-hitch forming at the bottom of the row of wraps.  Holding the loop with your tongue helps.

There are also several ways of snelling that involve making a loop that gets twisted over the bottom end of the hook, but I don't seem to have the dexterity to do that without getting the line snagged on the point, or losing my pinch on the top of the hook.
  Isn't YouTube great?

That's the video I learned from.
Im still getting used to having to do everything from a kayak and this is pretty straight forward and easy to do while rocking around and all that. the knots seemed really strong and cinched up really tight. i like it. I have an alternative way of doing it but this way is better and easier to accurately tie on the next hook to keep it out of distance from the other one to keep the regs legit.

I rarely re-tie on the water I have at least ten if not more prettied leaders for rockfish. Usually 3-5 for salmon. #1 waY to get sea sick is to be tying leaders on the water.

Tying hooks on the water...? Everything is pre-tied and ready to go, if the hooks not in the water you ain't fishin. I have all my hooks, leaders tied and wrapped around pipe insulation, throw a piece of broom handle in the middle of the insulation, helps to keep the wind from blowing it around.

I'm no mooching expert, but I like a single circle hook. I use a bait threader to rig it up. The hook bend ends up sticking out of the baitfish's eye socket, and I loop a single half hitch around the tail.

Salmon swallow baitfish head first, so rigging it backward makes sense to me.
