How comfortable are you in that kayak? Have you practiced self rescue and gathered all the necessary safety equipment? The reason I asked is you mentioned you're new to kayaking. And being in a sit-in-kayak as a newbie not knowing how to self rescue (not assuming you don't know how) and lacking safety gears can spell disaster. Ocean condition can change in an instant so you need to be prepared at all times. Don't rush it just because the salmon are moving out soon. Like I said earlier, be very comfortable in your kayak first. Your topic says "ocean fishing" hookup so I assumed you want to try and fish right away.

Anyways, keep an eye out for HMB hookups. Easy launch from the harbor and somewhat close to where you're from. Good place to start and test your yak. Be safe out there.

+1 I feel I am still new to this sport, only doing it for 3 years now, but I would not rush into the ocean if you are not ready. I love the ocean and fish it as much as I can. when I sold my Striper Boat, I thought no big deal, I will just go in a kayak. I took me two years to gather all the gear I needed to make sure I was safe. I missed out on a lot of good fishing, but there is always tomorrow!!! Make sure you feel safe, and have all the right safety gear first, then enjoy the heck out of it. I know I would rather be in my yak than a boat!!!!

Do you have a plan for what you would do if you tip over?  And do have the equipment and ability to execute that plan if you do tip over?
