What body of water are you asking about because California city is right in the middle of the Mojave desert.

Word is that a few have been picked up in Paradise recently.

In Loving Memory of Mooch, Eelmaster, Shicken, and Cabeza De Martillo

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...

Some strong currents there and ferry boat wakes. Somewhat wind protected.

We'll let me tell you about California City, very tough fishing on a kayak you need to pick a day where the wind is down in the currents are very mild otherwise you'll find yourself on an endless treadmill unable to make ground against the wind and the current, and it's also very difficult to get down deep there, for the fish can be as far down as 50 feet.  Boat traffic can be extremely bad this time a year most of them are fishing on down Riggers, and will often run over your line which will be much farther behind you, on a kayak unless you have a down rigger too.And launch areas that are close to there are very scarce you'll probably have to launch at paradise I have fished there probably 10 times for salmon and for halibut.

as for halibut fishing just live bait and a three way and 4oz of lead is all you need

For salmon I went with a 2 pound ball on a release but if you use a 2 pound ball you want to put it in a rear rod holder that's not hanging too far outside of the center line.
of the kayak, and don't bother with a deep diver there there's too much seaweed and crap
To deal with, but you could find a day when it isn't all that cluttered, but normally it's always cluttered.  Try fishing within a apex trout flavored, that way if it gets hung up or cluttered
It's a lot easier to clean off and you don't have to re bait.

good luck :smt001

Two hours before the high for sure, seems that as soon as they sniff freshwater they turn off.
