This was brought up previously but at the time I didn't think there would be much interest. Now that I have a sail myself, along with a whole bunch of other people that got sails or AI's this year, thought I would ask if anyone else would be interested. Think of it as a great way to document the year's best catches & also help support the site. Plus people tend to take more pictures if they sign up for AOTY & I know we are missing out on some fish porn of big beautiful c-bass, hali's, salmons, etc that get caught off of AI's. Anybody else into this?

It's already been under discussion in the committee ... still discussing the details.

Curious,
Would we change the 1st rule of AOTY for this?
"1. All fish entered must be caught by hook and line (i.e. hooked, fought, and landed) from a human power kayak (i.e. no sail or motors), without aid from anyone else and using methods deemed legal by the California Department of Fish and Game. No mothershipping allowed, the kayak must be under human powered control from launch until landing."
While we are at it,
I was told that a few fish already in AOTY might have been cought from sail yaks, but many pics make it hard to tell what how they were cought. Many photos are not even on a yak .... pics taken on dry land. Not upset, just curious how we can make sure it is does not become a issue in the future.

I target only a few species, mainly saltwater big game. There are only 8 AI guys in AOTY so not sure it makes sense. Since 3 of the 8 are previous AOTY winners, I would think a hack like me wouldn't have a chance.  :smt044

More than likely it would be a separate division.  When you enter a fish, there would be a spot to click if a sailing kayak was used.  These would be scored and tracked separately.

@GB2, yeah there aren't that many sailors  ... yet!  Likely not enough to even justify a prize (but we'll see).  But it would be a good way to measure your ... errr, compare the results from the different platforms.

I would be interested to support the site.  But really, I don't catch that many fish on the AI.  I am very busy with all the (&*&^) lines and taking taking pictures.
