I'm going to make a ginormous bait tank.

Want to know why?  Bet you do....

I am not really making a bait tank, although it will be used for that, but I am making a live well.

Might as well make both at the same time in the same place.

Besides, bait tanks are cooler.  Bait tubes are so ghetto.....

mine did not fit in entirely either but I secured it

I like the looks of that. How far down into the kayak does the box go?

I have about 3 inches of space between the base of the Plano box to the deck of the yak. But the box fits really snug.

Yep, see my "hot rod" post for pictures.

Mooch, how did you attach the pvc tubes to yours.

1) Drill two holes on the pvc pipe - a half inch apart  - upper half and lower half of the pipe = a total of 4 holes

2) the same on the plano box (you need to line up the holes according to your stanrdards before you do step 3)

3) zip tie and marine goop - to fill the little gaps

Thank you all for the observations and advice. I must admit I am torn between bait-tubes versus bait-tanks.

On one hand, the bait-tube is compelling with its elegant simplicty of setup and operation, light weight, power consumption (none ;-), ancillary equipment requirements (again none) and so it is _very_ kayak fishing in philosopy. I'll definitely build one and try it out.

But as MolBasser points out they indeed cannot function as a live well which I have been pondering also. And in lakes and bays, the stability issues are less of a concern than in open water. And it is another cool 'ride pimping' challenge though I'd rather spend time fishing than pimping over the long haul. I'll ponder the idea a bit more--no rush I can do Bendo II with a tube unless I have one by then.

I opted for single holes (two each tube) and wide washers in the box.  See my post in the kayak manufacturers section for my install.  It is totally sweet.
