Headed out this morning with John and Anna at about 0730.  Seas were pretty flat, little to no winds.  Decided to go to the pinnacles and drift back towards the cove.  There were a few PB's around and the occasional dive boat to dodge, otherwise we had the place to ourselves.  I ended up with a couple of nice Starry's, one nice vermillion, one keeper ling (25 inch), and 2 big olives on the stringer.  Released nuimerous small fish.  Other good fish of note:  Anna caught 4 nice vermillions and John also hooked into some really big olives.

Overall fishing was decent, but not as good as the area can be.

Interesting the way the starrys have appeared this year.  Pete was out yesterday when we were and he too got a starry........as well as a handsome male kelp greenling.

I am jealous of the lings.  What were you using for them?

Pat,

I caught 7 stary's total, but let 5 of the little guys go.  I caught 2 lings, but one was only 20", so back to the drink.  I caught them both on a 3.5 ounce megabait type jig, anchovie coloring, with a stinger hook on top and a red octopus hook on the bottom.  With one of them I had the hooks tipped with some small pieces of squid.

If that is what you caught them on then ........THOSE WERE MY LINGS!!!!!!!!!!  That is my favorite set up and I didn't use it on Saturday because I was trying out all sorts of bizarre things.  Congrats.

I did not see a single starry last year and I see them on every trip this year.

Did you know that little fish can clean a squid off of a large lead head really quickly????......... :smt005
