.......but make sure your payments are within your budget.  Nothing worse than biting off more than you can afford & having the thing up "for slae" or "repo" in a few short months.

When I purchased mine it was at Manteca trailer they do a good job there.
I initially went to buy a used one but ended up getting new because better loan options on new plus you get a warranty. I chose a 10 year load and the payment was very low.
Any large reputable dealership will do you right.

You do get better rates on a new one vs. a used...and even if you get a used one, it often can't be older than two years to qualify for the used loan. We went with our credit union because they had the best deal.

A warranty is good - but just make sure the dealership is one that has a good service rating. We got our little trailer from a well known place in French Camp and have already had to have some wiring replaced, the back-up battery replaced, and the fridge replaced.

Honesty - I don't think they checked everything before they sold it. And although they replaced everything eventually, they had to be convinced that something was wrong. It took weeks to get the fridge replaced, two weeks long than what they said it would take. So bottom-line: just make sure that if you need to get something fixed, that they do it right.

I remember reading about how RV locks were so generic that people were able to open any RV with another set of RV keys.  Not sure if this is the case still, but here is an article about it I just googled up:

Still true, especailly on the storage compartments! At Shelter Cove this year, another Class C had his dog push the power lock button and locked his keys in the car; I used my generic #751 key to open his RV door.... :smt044

That's why I changed my locks and put in a Viper Alarm....

If you want to try before you buy there are places where you can rent class A and C motorhomes and some places rent bumper pull trailers.

My Dad has gone back and fourth over the years between RV's and fith wheels.  One issue he came across with one of his RV's was that they had a single exhaust, which really limited the vehicles performance, he switched to a dual exhaust, and it performaned a lot better.  My rig for the VA was a mobile medical rig built off a camper box, it had twin diesel generators on it.  with a seperate tank for the diesel vs the gas for the truck, great idea.  Our other rig was much older and had a gas generator which ran off the same tank, at a certain point it would cut off because the fuel level got to low.  Now I am seeing some tri-fuel generators out there, and these, I feel, are the bomb.  They run on Gasoline, Propane, and Natraul Gas.

There are some conversion kits out there for gasoline generators as well.  From the Emergency Managers perspective, these make the most amount of sense.  Gasoline left in a generator will turn to shelack and harden, but propane and NG wont.  Propane tends to be expensive, but if you have a line long enough to hook up to NG you have almost a limitless supply of fuel. In the event of a disaster, you could have fuel that would take care of your heat and refrigeration and electrical needs. Of course the space availble may make these kits a none issue for some campers/rv's.
