This link has the story.

I read a lot of these each summer and wonder how many of these turn out to be the real deal.  Does anyone have input on this?

It would be interesting to see more tagging done with GW's .....hell, tag 'em all and see all the routes that they take year round. I'm curious to see what area (besides Ano Nuevo and the Farrallons) they tend to "swim by" more frequently that others.

My guess would be Davenport, the area around the Cliff House at Ocean Beach and the South side of Linda Mar  :smt045 = just my gut feeling  :smt090

FYI: when Bill and I paddled towards egg rock / Devils Slide last weekend, we saw a lof of seals hanging out on the South side of Pedro Point = even more that what I saw last year - I'm sure the Land Lord swims by that area for a little snack = it would just make sense  :shark

Whats the attraction to Davenport?  Plenty of incidents/sightings but I've never really seen a seal population there.  Is it just because its en route from Natural bridges to Ano?
..........agarcia is just an ex-kayaker

Joel, you ask and you shall recieve.  Each year researchers are tagging more and more pelagics in the pacific ocean.  If you look through it close enough you will see a few dots representing sharks tagged just north of the gate and one south of the gate.

As for the number of GW, it is believed that North of the gate holds more near it's shores with a resurgance near Ano Nuevo.

This past spring a mother and baby GW were spotted inside the six ft depth range of LM.  They lingered for a week.  Mom never really made any attempts to come close, just stayed near baby.  People surfed while this went on.

I cannot confirm this story other than a bullshit sesion on the beach talking about GW's with local surfers and dori guys.

By the way most of the tagged GW's are half way between CA and Hawaii.  They call it the Great White Cafe.  They don't know why but they are all there.
