NCKA brothers and sisters,

I am looking to purchase my first boat and come to the classifieds section to see if anybody is willing to sell one or point me in the right direction. I took the recommendation of a fellow NCKA brother and rented/fished from a few different kayaks that I was interested in. Now its time to shop around for some great deals  :smt005.

I am looking for a OK T13/T11 and or Ride 135/115.

I was hoping to score on one of the deals at Sport's Chalet - but I was a little too late. They did have 1 OK Prowler 13 for $600 but I really want the rod pod center console.

Possible trades:
If also interested I have a brand new iPhone 5 (64GB)(Black) AT&T I would be willing to trade + cash of course depending on the boat.

Thanks!

JR

Where do you mostly fish?  How big are you? I would recommend if you get the Ride make it the bigger one. The T-13 will be faster than the Ride, but less stable. You may want to consider a Tarpon 120 or 140 too. Faster than the t11-13 and at least as stable if not more. Faster too. Which means less effort to paddle. Just no rod pod on the Wildys. Also a better seat on the Wildys unless you upgrade the OK's. the OK' are good yaks though too.

Right now, I have been fishing Feather River, Sacramento River, Delta, but will be looking to fish at many places. I want a good starter for both ocean and freshwater. I don't mind putting work into the kayak but also don't mind spending a little more to have them installed already.

I tried the t140 and wasn't for me, very narrow and didn't seem as stable. It tracked well though but was tough to turn in wind/current. I didn't try the T120 but my cousin did and said it was great. If I go the Tarpon route the p3 seating is a must lol.

I am 6ft tall and weight 182 pounds and dropping  :smt002.

My wife has the Ocean Kayak Trident 11 & she really likes the fishing pole storage and the plastic tray that slides. We normally put 3 or 4 rods with reels with reel covers in the storage area. The plastic tray is good for holding your phone, keys, wallet, utility knife, camera and etc.

I like the 11ft model it's light weight and easy to load. I wouldn't mind having the 13ft model for myself maybe when it's time get upgrade my kayak ill get the 13ft model. I'm 6ft tall and 240lbs and her kayak is comfortable for me and has space to move around.

A few of my buddies have used her kayak and they are actually able to stand up and cast in it. I haven't done this myself but I can ensure you that the Trident is a very stable kayak and you will not be let down.

I attached a few pictures showing my Friend clay standing up fishing from the Trident 11 and also a few pictures of the fishing pole storage area with the sliding tray.

If you have any other questions about this kayak I might be able to answer them.

We rushed out of the house and forgot the seat lol but Clay didn't mind it at all he said it wasn't to bad on him when he was sitting down paddling. The seat is show in the last picture at a different time of use.

Don't rush things! Anything worth having is worth waiting for.

At that weight and height you can paddle anything with confidence with practice. If you have not paddled much then that is where the tippy ness came from. The 140 is more stable than the 120 or the t13, actually I know several guys 220 plus on 140's and 160's both. The 140 can be stood on with practice. For the rivers the ride would be ok, but the Tarpons and Tridents will be better on the salt. The t13 or T120 will both not track as well as the longer boats. Turning is just practice on any yak. I can turn my 160 as fast as anyone on a shorter boat in wind or not. No rudder. In my opinion, and a lot of others, the 140 is one of the best all around kayaks out there. If you get a little older Wildy I recommend buying a REAL good seat. If you buy any OK I would upgrade the seat right away.

I have the Ride 135 and i am 6' 280# and it is very stable and keeps me up out of the water pretty decently. i think it would be overkill considering what you would be able to fit into comfortably. if you want a barge get the Ride that thing is nice n wide and really comfortable. I dont have experience sitting in any other yak besides this one. one of these salty barnacles will point you in the right direction though. they helped me out a ton when i was asking the same question a few months back.

I got a Trident 13 a few weeks back and have paddled it on lakes, creeks and the SF bay. Pretty easy to stand up on and even paddle that way. The storage is excellent (love the rod pod) and handling in chop is really good. I had a 16ft touring kayak in the past - it's obviously not as fast but I've found it to have more than enough speed considering the additional stability I got. I'm 5'11", 160lb.

If you're looking at a Trident, I'd recommend checking out Adventure Sports. They have great deals on factory 2nds (that's what I got - $400 below MSRP and the only flaw I could find was the 2nd K in the Ocean Kayak decal was off by 1/2 inch)

I love my redfish 14. Also have a prowler 13-t and very happy with it. But for your price range you can get a redfish 12 or 14 on sale. Check with headwaters in lodi. Good guys.
