Hola Guys, help a brother out. I cannot find online at the DF&G site any info regarding having rockfish tackle onboard when  in possession of salmon. Did the regulations change?
1) Can we have rockfish tackle AND fish for rockfish after we catch a limit of salmon?
2) If we CANNOT have rockfish tackle on board....where is this info?
   Thanks for any help, Ron

You will need to fish with barbless hooks as soon as a salmon is in your possession. It's not illegal to have rockfish gear on your yak, as long as your not using it. Now, lets see your salmon?!?  Lol!

If by rockfish gear you mean barbed hooks, yes you can have them aboard at the same time you have salmon aboard.  You just can't fish with barbed hooks if you have salmon on board.  Probably best to not even have a rod rigged with barbed hooks with salmon on board, even if you aren't fishing with that rod.

I'm assuming if you want to catch both species, you can fish for RF first with all your barbed hooks then switch to barbless when it's time to catch salmon?

Yes, but you must remain shallower than the depth limit for rockfish when you have rockfish on board.  Up north here with a 120' depth limit, that means we go for salmon first and fish barbless for rockfish.

How can that be? The charters are always offering salmon rockfish combos and they go after the salmon first.
