so i launched and it was weird, the waves came in sets and slapped me right in the face. it was fun and lucky for me i did not eat it. the weather was good. i paddled south of linda mar and went towards the point.

that place is freaky man, my ff was tellin me there were some real shallow pinnacles and i was paddling in places that had boilers and pinnacle tops dotting the area.

also another reason LM is freaky is there was a guy that was standing on some board thing paddling with a tribal paddle thing. he fell a couple of times and even made it towards the point. i wanted to see what he was on but moved on, he looked like he was concentrating though. movin fast too. it looked like he was walking on water. was it jesus? that freaked me out, he even stood up going over the swelly areas.

i got a 22 " cabezon in 38 feet of water, then places started freaking me out because swells started coming again. i went home and pretended i didnt get scared.

that place is freaky man, whats with the funky boilers all over the place and the swells from nowhere. i think someone was playing a trick on me. \

lots of boats and kayaks all in one area. must have been something good there, like a shallow pinnacle!

I can't state definitively that that wasn't Jesus, cuz I wasn't there. But you probably saw a guy doing a sort of stand up surfing technique, where these guys cover lots of distance standing and paddlng with a long crook necked paddle, custom made for the purpose. They use a super long surfboard, maybe 11 foot or so. They can paddle their way onto the waves, and take off standing. Mostly, I hear that it's challenging just to stay upright and paddle, but good exercise.

Another new sport to try.

Best,

Paul

I've seen that guy lately myself. Sometimes there's guys fishing from surfboards too. Whatever works!

Hi Paul,

thanks for the explanation on what that guy was doing. It was pretty interesting.

hope to fish LM again soon, I want to go SOuth of the point next time.

While I was out there Saturdya morning I was off the point where the water was crashing and wher the whitewater flows out in a line straight off the point. It reminded me of when I went to the Coronados to spearfish at a place called Pukey Point. The way the foam sits off the point there. I bet fish like it.

Hey John sorry we didn't run into you, Mooch and I where out there as well. We paddled south to Egg rock. The action was pretty slow, I landed one underling and had a bigger fish pull my knot out (I hate when that happens!) It was a long paddle but that place looks pretty fishy.

We fished our way back without much else, I landed a few tiny blues. There where  a lot of skiffs and kayakers out there. One guy had 2 keeper lings and Gordon in a zodiac had a nice size starry flounder.

They don't just stand up and paddle, they surf too. It' easier to catch a wave becuase the board is so big and you can catch the waves on the outside of the others. Plus, you're already standing up and you can use your paddle while turning. The last kayak race in june @ cck in hmb there was a guy on one. I told him I think he's got his category locked up.

I have talked to that guy once or twice over the past year. He is on our schedule when it come to water conditions.  One day I kayaked near him and asked him how far out he goes. He told me that he goes to the point mostly.

He paddles fast too.
