A bunch of us guys are trying to help our brother get to the Nationals.  Y'all know Rick as the high school kid that blew most of us spearo's out of the water, and probably has won more events than all of us put together, lol.  With Ricks primary focus on school, being a great ambassador to the sport, we thought we would see if we can gather up the posse and have him represent.  Below is my comments:

Dear Friends/Family/Spearo's,

Ever since my little brother Rick was diagnosed with spearfishing addiction, I've been searching long and hard for ways to fight this terrible disease. This year, I think we found a great one. We want to send Rick to the 2013 U.S. National Spearfishing Championship August 1st, at Kings Beach, Newport Rhode Island.

As part of my participation in this fundraising, I'm am trying to raise $2314.00 to cover costs, which will be donated directly to Rick's Father. Your donation of any amount would be a great help to offset the total expenses in reaching this goal.

Thank you so much for your support. We all know what addiction does to you.

Rick will be heading out next week to the East.  For those that have donated, we will be paying his pops beginning of next week for what we raised. (still time to donate, if you have beer money laying around) Big thanks to those that were able to help this highschool'r out.  Hitting just a fraction of the goal still is a big offset, so big big thanks!  Much family love!!!  Hope Rick can do us proud for cencal!!

Go Rick!

Newport, RI?  Very Close to my old home town, across the Naragansett Bay in Cranston (5 minutes from the Providence Airport).  Wish my grandfather was still alive, he could of pointed out some areas for you, he was a an old brass head salvage diver back in the 30's.  Lot of good fishing there, not sure what they spear up there, but I know Flounder are in abundance, stripers, and blues are common, Shark as well.  Water may be a bit warmer than here, as the gulf stream is the opposite.  Doubt the Vis will be any better, maybe worse, as Newport as had a couple extra hundred years of boat traffic from smugglers, slavers, rum runners, whalers, and such.  He may even get a shot at some lobsters, but remind him east coast lobsters will nail you fast if you don't watch out, and those damn blue crab are aggressive like rock crab here.  Plenty of eel to shoot in the evenings if he gets a chance.  We use to gig em as a kid at night.  Have lots of fun up there!

Thanks. Great info! Raises my level of stoke that much further.

Thanks, Russ. I should be able to keep a report (or at least pics) going in real time in the days leading up.
