I'll be in Point Arena for the 4th and bringing the yak and all the gear along. If the weather agrees I'll be going out in the salt as much as possible. Most likely will launch at the warf but I might spread out as far as Elk or Stillwater Cove too. All company welcome and any local intel on reefs to hit or area's to troll for salmon are very welcome.

Try launching at Moat Creek.  Its a couple of  miles south of town and the reef is straight out about a half mile off shore and if the salmon are in the area they will be about 2 miles off shore.  It is about a 100 yard easy walk to the launch if you have wheels.  Keep an eye on the wind as it can get brutal there.

Hey Loomis,

I will be camping about 10 minutes down the hwy 1 at Anchor bay and will be going out 4-7th. Thinking about giving salmon a go one or two of the days. Also gonna drop the crab nets to see if I can pull some dungies up.

I will be staying in campsite 5 so feel free to come down and join me.

Great to hear rider, I'm bringing a couple pots too. I hope salmon turns on while we're out there. Thanks for the tips Jacks, I checked out moat creek last time I was up there but the wind was howling so it was a no go pretty much everywhere. Fingers crossed this time.

I had a local woman tell a while back that PA is the windiest place in the US. Don't know if that's true or not, but it seems to always howl there.  I'll be camping in Gualala that weekend. I'll keep an eye on the weather too. Are you going to check out the fireworks? Best show I have ever seen there at the pier.

The launch at the wharf is cake. I have heard rumors of a live rockfish commercial operation there that has really put the hurt on the verm and coppers. Go check out the lighthouse if you have time and make the climb. Its fantastic up there. have fun!

I agree with Craig that the launch at the wharf is a piece of cake and the fishing is straight out by the can.  The good thing about the wharf is that if the wind picks up or the fog comes in you have a much easier paddle back to land.  The light house is worth the short drive and a reminder that part of the ocean is closed to fishing.

I'll definitely check out that lighthouse, the view looks great. The fireworks are a must. I saw the show two years ago and it was bar far the best I've ever been to. With the reports of salmon from Fort Bragg to Bodega looking good I have high hopes as long as it stops blowin.

Hey Loomis you gonna make it down to Anchor bay and go for some salmon Friday?  Let me know I will probably head out early to try for the first light bite.

Hope to see you there.

The forecast is calling for some strong winds on Friday, but, on Saturday it is suppose to be calm.

Point Arena is windy a lot but its good. This is one spot on the north coast that has a huge upwelling of deep nutrients in the ocean. The big winds bring this up to the salmon. Its an awesome place. None like it in the world.

Talked to some locals today and they said the salmon fishing is hot straight out of the harbor and that they are catching some in the 30 pound range.

Woohoo! thats great news. wind looks like its going to be howling till saturday so I'm probably going to chill till then. I'm bringing a couple pots and the dive gear if conditions allow for any of that between today and Saturday. Rider, I'll come by your site on Friday and see how you did if you end up going out and we should hook-up saturday and sunday for some chrome. Thanks for the reports and advice everyone!
