today was one of those afternoons where the wind just never came up.  that and small swells made it seem like a half decent idea to head out of SC for a few hours in the late afternoon/evening.  I didn't go though, since I'm renovating a bathroom at home and I'm not sure if the later hours are productive at all.

anyone fish later in the day when conditions permit?  what's it like?

You should have gone.

Dammit!  I knew I should've gone!  My spidey senses were tingling.  Even around 8:15 this evening, on the way home from dinner, took a detour along West Cliff and it was pretty mellow with plenty of light.  Foggy, but mellow.

Oh well, at least I got something done this afternoon!  :smt003

My .02. If conditions permit; fish. They don't have watches.
I can't think of a time when the conditions were good that I didn't enjoy being on the water.

I used to head out to Shell Beach after class all the time when I was down in SLO. The ocean is generally a little more friendly down there, though... I remember many beautiful glassy evenings and watching the sun set while I bobbed around not far from the launch.  Damn I miss that place sometimes...

A lot of rockfish are nocternal feeders. I've fished areas during the day with little to no success only to be there at night/evening and get slammed on every cast. I find this very true with blacks. Good hunting and be safe

Sometimes things glass off nicely after the dinner hour or so.  We've had some days over at the Cape in the past where it was blowing like hell in the late afternoon.  We had a beer on the beach, watched as the wind seemed to lighten up, got out there while it was still whipping, and right before sunset it turned to magic!  The hardest part of fishing late is when you have to force yourself to leave a bite a mile offshore because it's getting dark!   :smt001

The couple times I have done it when the fan wasn't on in Trinidad I always found it somewhat spooky lol.
