Okay, just trying to figure out who's actually going where. A few of us are going out of Bodega. Launching from Doran next to the jetty. The ocean is doable but there will be fog and lots of power boats. If we launch and travel as a tight knit group and hug the shore line (single file) our chances of being seen might be better. Not many boats run radar on the weekends.

It's less than a mile paddle to the Whistler buoy and that will be the starting point. Will be at the beach at 5:00 with launch when there is just enough light to be seen. Be real careful crossing the jetty opening. Time it so no boats are coming...might be a few minutes of wait.

Bring all your safety equipment including a compass in case your electronics give out. I use channel 9 (the power boaters channel) on the way out to listen to the bite location and then we can switch back to 69 during fishing and maybe alternate back and forth. Listen closely for the changes and try to keep up (back to the future reference...haha)  We should not talk too much on channel 9 as it's almost non stop fishing/non fishing talk.

Chime in if you are going. Review the Safety First threads if you have any doubt what you will need. Let's be safe and have fun doing it..

It was slow for me out at the whistle buoy, but I saw fish landed all morning. Power boaters were thick and running wide open outta the jetty mouth so watch out. They were pretty courteous on the troll. I Got one holy shit wtf is he doing out here! Rollers were big and mixed swell bad from jetty mouth to just past the island. PB ers create a lot of extra chop in there. Fog was ok 1/4 mile vis most of morning. I had lights but waited for good light to launch, I wanted to be seen! Good luck bite was steady all morn for most. Faster (3-4 knts) troll 20-60 feet down on DRs w anchovy seemed to be the ticket. I could hardly paddle over 1 knot with mixed swell and 8-10 rollers

You guys might consider heading to the bell buoy from Doran then trolling to the whistle. That way you don't have to cross the jetty mouth in midst of PB madness and feel squeezed between Island and Head. Plus,  the seaward side of the reef can be very good for salmon also.

I wish I could be there. I'm sure there's going to be some rods jumping out of their rod holders on this one. Go getem!
