If it didn't come with a recovery disc, then usually it is included as a separate partition on the hard drive your computer came with.  Google how to restore to the factory image for that specific model PC.  Worth a shot so you don't just have a paper weight sitting there.

Can you get to the system bios (usually press the F2 key when booting up) to run the system checkup?

 

 Sailfish, yes we can access bios, no we haven't system checkup.  Fiver, thanks for that info, not sure we'll have access to it or not, haven't tried yet, but will look at when I get home.
