Had a chance to get the family all out to Dillon’s beach a few weeks ago and everything was going to plan...
Except the wind ha ha.
We had gusts of up to 30mph which made things fun trying to cook outside, let alone kayak over to the sand flats.
Either way I grabbed my limit of Gapers in short order and made the fun yak back to the seawall to start cleaning and de-sanding.
About an hour later we were eating delicious clam chowder, and fried clam necks.  We were even able to BBQ some oysters that were conveniently sold to us right at our campsite.
Nothing better than family fun playing in the sand/mud enjoying one of my favorite places on the coast.
Sorry for the crummy pics but the wind made things challenging to say the least.
Was really impressed that both my Mom and Mother in Law stuck it out and enjoyed the fun even though it consisted of hunkering down near the cars.

Do you guys ever worry about the warnings about the clams there?
I've considered going there but have been turned off by the warnings.

Are they legit? Or line the mercury warnings in stripers?

Never really gave much thought to it as I have been eating those clams since I was a todler with no ill affects.
You don't eat the whole clam as you do with the smaller varieties, just the rudder, some lip muscle and the skinned necks.
At least I don't ha ha.
Are there any recent studies published?
All I know is that the clam chowder and fried necks dipped in panko are the bomb.
