Went out after work yesterday for a few hours. Launched from my favorite spot at the end of March Lane by Ladd's. Original plan was to just paddle with my brother since its been so long since either of us has been on the water.  The wind is keeping some of us at home still. :smt012  but it was not too bad and we got out to the spot and started catching bait.  The sun fell and it was on. I went across the river to a point with rocks and started drifting. Not even 5 minutes later something pulled the rod hard. I pulled back hard..... And now it's on. That sucker took what seemed like 900 yards of 14 lb line and the adrenaline was pumping.  It was done fighting and I reached for my frabil net from wal mart. All I can do with that net was try to fit the head in that thing to no avail. What ended up happening in my attempt was me stabbing at the fish 5 times.  I pulled it closer to the yak and grabbed it. My first fish this big since fishing from a blow up dol... Er yak.  10 minutes later after taking this picture and bleeding the fish out onto another attempt at landing something. Bait down.... Fish on! Same deal with the second fish that happened with the first one. Couldn't net it. Ahhh! :smt013 lesson learned. Stop buying crap from wal mart! Or at least modify it. Once the wind dies down it'll be another crap shoot. Hope I roll some 7's.....

Very nice fish! I have wanted to launch at that same spot just didn't know how strong the delta current would be for a kayak in that area.

Never was anything great achieved without danger!

thanks! well, the current is not too bad.  it's the wind.  i mean, if you were heading against the current, it's a little work, don't get me wrong, but if you just think of it as working out....... it's no problem whatsoever.

your hard boats probably get by easier than i can.  i have a small inflatable that doesn't track too well.  maintainable, but it takes work.

sherman island is a long ways away from where i'm fishing.  i'm a LOT further inland;  stockton deep water channel by the windmill cove area.  i've never been to sherman island, but if it's anything like rio vista..... that current out there is way more than what i experience inland.

How about a lip gripper instead of a net?  Most guys that fish for Stripers out a boat use grippers, too much of a PIA to untangle a Striper from a net and lure.  I sure don't want my hands near a thrashing Striper when a lure with three big treble hooks is stuck in its mouth.
Nice limit there BTW!

you're probably right.  i've never used a lip gripper before.  just unsure of myself with one of those and a thrashing striper might yank me off balance and kerrrplunnk! i'm sure it'll never happen, but those fears keep me from owning one.  that being said, my parents have caught a 30 lber there before and am fearful of what could be if i ever do.............. thanks for the suggestion
