This is a fairly new Yak Attack  product.           Does anybody have some experience with it.  ?    Looks pretty solid.

I've heard good things about it. I have not seen one in person yet, but I may soon.  Wilderness Systems fishing packages will be coming with many Yak Attack accessories. Screw balls, Zooka Tubes, Visi Carbon light and flag, and other stuff.

I have never used one so I cant speak from experience but IMO.....anything that sticks out of you deck can:

* hinder your self rescue (cause it can get in the way)
* does not look solid enough to handle a big heavy fish strike (unless you set your drag really loose)
*possibility of line or paddle leash tangle

IMO, I'm a firm believer of keeping all kinds of deck mounts flush to the deck as much as possible (or any mount that you can put away when going in and out o a big surf day - if you happen to yard sale your kayak rolls into the shoreline, anything that sticks out on your deck can rip of easily. I've seen it happen.)

I like using these flush mounts - the screw in one especially cause you swivel your rod holder 360 degrees

.....just my two cents

The Yak Attack rod holder is mounted to a Ram ball. Are you saying you don't like the Ram mounts, or just the parts that stick off the deck on any rod holder? You want the rod holders removable for surf landings?

never used a ram ball but I've seen it slip when trolling with heavy downrigger set ups (maybe scuffing the ram ball lightly will grip better) and yes, Im not a fan on any mounts that are not flat on the deck.

Even my plano box is secured with bungee cords on both sides so if I yard sale, I dont loose the box and the bunjee will stretch and help absorb thrashing if it rolls in the surf (based on my experience on an epic yard sale in Linda Mar many moons ago :smt011)

I also try to keep my fish finder mounts well with in the deck (the original Ocean Kayak Prowler 15 has a perfect spot for it at the edge of the footwells).....I'll try to find a pic to post...oh...and my FF head is detachable and stored in my plano box when there's big surf.
