The idler pulley on my mirage drive split in the channel and also failed at the outside shaft hole. Only have about 100 miles on this yak. Hobie referred me to a dealer for replacement part. Its all under warranty, but considering the cost of the part (a few bucks) and the fact that I wanted some other Hobie parts, I just put an order in.

I really looked the drive over to get ready for this weekend. Want to order a drive spare parts kit when they're available from Headwaters. Strangely enough, this part isn't included in that kit...I ordered an extra one to add to it just in case. I also realize that I need some allen wrenches for repair work to stow in my yak.

Anyone else have this pulley fail? I guess I should have adjusted my cables after the first few times I used the yak.

Anyway, this is the first time I actually took a good look at this drive....prolly a good idea to understand how it works and where all the adjustments are before GS7!!!

Jeff gave me some tips on lubing points and what grease to use. I'll feel good to have the unit tip top for this weekend.

Haven't seen that one yet. Warrantee work is typically handled through the purchasing dealer. If you need some help let me know, Either way we'll get you on the water for GS7. I'm bringing all my rigging/install tools to GS7 so we can rebuild your drive or anyone else's if we need to at camp.

I also had an idler pully fail on me, as well as Sledge.  Cheap and easy to replace, didn't bother with the dealer since I wanted to buy some other spares as well (rudder pins, shear bolts, and rudder cable.)  I could really use a hand with the rudder cable replacement should mine finally break at the cove.  :smt003

It would seem to me that the only way to damage that pulley would be to have the idler cable too tight.  Of course it may have been defective to begin with.
