Hello all, yep I am heading out once again to the Redwood city Port area. Anyway I usually head out in the afternoon but after the severe beating I took with the wind last Saturday afternoon. I decided to give early morning fishing a try. My plan is to head out at first light sometime around 5:30am and fish the incoming tide until about 10:00am. By that time all of the crazy boaters will be out there, and will probably not be worth hanging around. Anyway, if anyone is interested that's where I will be. :)

Hi, I am new to the area, and have never tried the bay at Redwood City before. What fish are you targeting? -Adam

Hey Wall-e, word is that the stripers are moving in to the area. Although I have not actually see any pulled out yet this year. But I was out there last weekend and there was a lot of bait in the water. So hopefully they will be around. Other then that the Leopard sharks have also started moving in to spawn so there should be some of those our there as well. I think I am going to split my time soaking both dead and live baits to see what hits.

Just wanted to give a brief update on how the trip went. I got there are 5:30am and it was absolutely peaceful. The water was completely calm. Water temp was around 65 degrees. Bait fish were everywhere. As I paddled out  I crossed over several large bait balls breaking the water, it was pretty cool. After paddeling for a while I settled into my favorite spot. I brought two live shiners with me and some frozen mackerel. I first loaded up with one of shiners and it had not even made it to mid water before it was hit. Unfortunately all I was left with was an empty hook. I quickly re-baited with the second shiner. But but then whatever had been feeding there was gone. About 40 min later I hooked into a 45" leopard shark. He had an unusual amount of fight in him. After getting him to the boat I did a quick measurement and a few photos then let him go. After that all I had left was the mackerel which only brought a few light nibbles. Around 9:00 am the row teams started to make there way through the port and then by 9:30 the motorboats and everyone else started to show up. So I decided to pack it in and can call it a day. Anyway, that pretty much sums it up. Below are a few pics I took while I was out there.

Cavedweller, where did you launch from?  I normally put out from the launch where the sailing school is.

Hey Squidder, I launched from the boat ramp off of Chesapeake Dr. It cost me 5 bucks to launch, but I felt for me it was totally worth it. Made it so easy to get in and out of the water.

Same place, do you ever fish over in the slough areas?  A neighbor fishes the banks out int he slough, he scored a nice fat butt over there last year.  Not sure exactly but i have from more than one person they come in to the shallows when it is warm out and the tide is in.

I have also heard the same thing from several people as well, including an individual that works at the Marine Science Institute. I have thought about trying to target them several times but up until last weekend I had pretty much only gone in the afternoon. As a result, it was always pretty windy, which made drifting or trolling for them pretty much impossible, at least for me. However, I think I will try again in a couple of weeks, going out early in the morning when there is no wind like I did this last time, and see if I can hook up with one.   :smt001

I actually was out on the trail that runs behind that area with my wife and kids and ran into an MSI employee, I don't remember his name? Anyway, he was telling us about some of the different family activities that they have. In passing he mentioned halibut being in the area, and its been in the back of my mind ever since. But it sounds like you might be in the know. :) Have any tips for that area in general? As far as the geese go, take as many as you want. They make such a mess over there. LOL
