just got to uploading the pics of the two LT i kept today at Fallen Leaf. the bottom was a nice fish for fallen leaf, 5lbs. the top one was right under 4. the bottom fish had a tag in it. pretty cool, was the first tagged fish i've caught so i took it home to call the number and find out more etc. fun fish especially if you fight them slow so they can release their air gradually as they come up. they put up way more of a fight then when they are all ballooned up.

if you are doing a top-line troll, i'd use rapalas or somethin like it. as far as jigging goes, i like to set up a drop shot rig with a minnow as bait. it can be live or artificial. i like live ones  :smt002 extra sent and wiggle works nice.

ps. if you are coming to tahoe and surrounding lakes in your yak check this out first..http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=38102.msg410695#msg410695

Hey Scud - If you head to Bucks, keep in mind that you are not allowed to use live or dead finfish as bait in Plumas County.  Just FYI.  I've never fished for macks, but from what I hear most guys at Bucks will either troll plugs or jig Gibbs Minnows for them.  I also hear a good place to try for macks there is along the old Bucks Creek channel, north of the marina.

I kinda want to try it there sometime myself, now that I'm thinking about it.  Never caught a mack.  How do they taste guys?

I just went last week and scored a big zippo. I spoke to a friend/guide and he believes that the water temp is still too cold which is keeping the kokes in the inlet shallow areas. This is a weird year weather wise where road access opened 3 weeks earlier than normal, but water temps are still where they are for this time of year. He thinks that the kokes are a week or two away from moving out in schools...this is what starts the Maks up gets them out of a more dormant state...at least this is what a wise old sage has told me and it makes me feel better for striking out on Macs last week.

Good luck-

Mackinaw is by far my favorite fish to eat. I like to fillet out all fat and sensory viens (Their lateral line). The brown in between the skin and fillet is the oily fishy taste you get if you don't take it out... Or cook your fish with skin on the oils will cook into the fillet and compromise taste...

By the way I caught three more Mack's this morning from a motorized 4 seater kayak... (Lol) on Lake Tahoe jigging... The bite is good!
