I was very happy to see the parking lot gate was open when I arrived this morning. Loaded up and was on the water around 7am. Had a nice paddle out Willow Slough and onto the CR. No wind and the water was flat. I fished around for over two hours before I saw another person on the river. All I had was a few hits, nothing hooked, then I stopped to watch a man and his dog in a small boat. The dog didn't do much, but this guy was pulling in bass every few casts. I paddled over to chat with him (Brian). Brian said he and his wife were at this hole last week and the bite was non-stop. Brian then invited me to move in on his spot, told me where to throw and what to use...bam! I had 4 bass. This guy was great, a true gentleman and a good fisherman. Hope to see him again on the water. Later I paddled down to the Moke but found the water was moving too fast. Headed back to the launch and was off the water around 12:30. Nice day on the river.

Here's some pics. I didn't get a pic of my biggest bass, he didn't want to wait and decided to jump off the kayak.

Excellent report and pictures.

Those are some very interesting looking bass.  The bottom one is clearly a smallmouth, but the top one looks like it could be a hybrid large/small (does that happen?).

Where is this area in California?  That looks like a real fun place to fish and looks super catfishy....

The delta people call them black bass. I'm no expert on what the are. Whatever they are, they had some good fight in 'em. I'll be going back there again.

This are is off I5 near Thornton. South of Sacto.   I put a link on the hookup section.

Yeah, smallmouth are real bruisers for their size, and especially smallmouths that have to deal with current their entire lives.

I REALLY need to do some delta fishing.

I thought the bottom 1 looked like a smallie but hard to tell from the pic.I think all bass large-small-spot-red eye are all in the Black bass family. Some places in the delta area do have a good population of smallies.
