Hay if anyone want’s to camp on Angel Island have the kayak campsite
Reserved for 7-10-06 check in time is 200pm checkout 1100Am 7-11-06.

So far I have just 3 people with a limit of 20 so all are welcome plan to launch
At paradise it seems to be the best spot I don’t think they will let me launch
At the marina right across from the campsite so will just have to do paradise.

Is it a kayak fishing trip or regular camping trip? How is fishing around the island?

We did a two-family campout last July at Angel Island.  Really fun.

We took a campsite way up on the hill, Sunrise, i think they call it.  took the ferry over with backpacks and bikes, loaded , hiked, set up camp, then me and partner Steve took the ferry back to Tiburon and got our yaks to paddle back to the island.

The yak campsite would be way more convenient, but it ws  a family trip.  We launched right next to the very private marina in tiburon. While there, a security guy came over and hassled us.  We were outside the gate, but the strip of garbage dump gravel next to the gate is, apparently, theirs.  Don't know why we bothered him, but both Steve and I, as if rehearsed, just nodded and smiled at him and made affirmative noises while we continued to set up our boats and put on our wetsuits and comence to shove off.    The guy was trying to convince us that we would be arrested if we dared launch from that spot.  We had already parked our cars a mile away, so it was.....uh-huh, yeah, guess so,,,,then ...... later dude!

When we returned a few days later we landed to the east of town by the little museum building.  I saw a couple exercise type yakkers landing and launching there.  Rocky but do-able.

When we first got to the island I put out a hairraiser on my spinniing rod and hooked up a legal 22-24" striper.  Steve doesn't fish, all he could say is "but...that fish is BIG!" (yeah, that's the point steve).  We stashed our boats in the bushes below the old military base.

The next day I tried fishing but the wind was way too strong, so I surfcast for a nice little halibut that came on a rattletrap in about 1 foot of water.  fun

Highly reccomended trip, can't believe you're so close to the City, and thefishing was pretty good.  Be sure to check the tides before transiting racoon straights, the current cooks.  Slack tide best, easy paddle.

That sounds like a great trip!  Tides are pretty good for that paddle both afternoons - 7/10 high of 4.6 @ 1:19p and low of 3.2 @ 5:17p.  As long as you're not paddling in the middle of the night you'll be OK (6.8 high @ 11:30p then a -1.3 low around 5:30am or so - that will suck you right out the gate!).  Besides the Stripers and Halibut, you could troll for Salmon around Cailifornia City (between the Pt. and Paridise - the North Side of Tiburon Peninisula) although that's still a little early in the year for that spot.  Another option for Salmon is to drift/mooch from the GG Bridge in tight towards and past Ft. Baker/Horseshoe Cove.  With that tide change it might be doable depending on the afternoon wind.  A morning with slack tide and a launch from Horseshoe Cove @ Ft. Baker might be worth a try - no surf launch and possible salmon a few hundred yards from the launch!

Duane, that sounds fun. I put it on my calendar. Will see how things develop as it gets closer.
I've camped on the other side of the island. Neat experience. This plan would be a kick.

I seem to remember a possible launch site right next to the Elephant Rock pier.  I think there's a restaurant there and a parking lot right across the street.
