I had no clue what I wanted in a mooching rod, so when I went looking for one last year at Fishermans  Warehouse, the manager there had me feel a bunch of rods, without looking at the specs, and just hold it while he gave it some action by bending down the tip.  After about 7-8 rods I selected one, and then he let me look at the specs.  A Lamiglas Backbouncer (G 1380-T) ended up being my choice, and it works GREAT for mooching!  (http://www.lamiglas.com/prod_indiv.php?groupid=14)

Broke it on a snag my 3rd time out.  :smt009  Went right back to FW and ordered up another one, and set the old one in for repair.  Lamiglas replaced the other one, which I didn't expect, free of charge!  So I actually have two of these now, one still wrapped in plastic.  Probably be willing to part with it since I dont really need two salmon rods.

ooops, it's actually a Pro Bouncer, not a Back Bouncer.  Here is the correct link/model: http://www.lamiglas.com/prod_indiv.php?groupid=12  (X 80 MBC) which is very similar to the other one I posted really.  Saw some good deals on the other one too on Amazon!

Here it is in action  :smt044

If your interested, shoot me a PM with a reasonable offer Bill.  I'm thinking of upgrading from a Elite 4 to a Elite 5 Lowrance if you happen to have one ;)

But... I can only use one of them at a time for Salmon!  Well... there is always WSB!  Works great for that too!  :smt003  Maybe I do need to keep it!  :smt005

You want a long, limber rod and mono line (20-30lb). The Charter Special should work fine. Although, last year was the first time I can remember people catching fish by mooching from yaks (at least, on a consistent basis). It's almost always a trolling deal.
Does this setup work better than a stiffy shorter tuna rod in braid?

Absolutely.   :smt001  The medium bends quite a bit during trolling with salmon gear.  I used medium-heavy most of last year and liked it.
