IMO: it would be a good idea to know where the nearest Hospitals are during an NCKA event. I'll start with what I know - please chime in if you know of any / thank you.

I'll start with...

Half Moon Bay area: http://www.setoncoastside.org/about-us/

*It would also be nice to know if we can have a list of first responders in NCKA (who are attending an event) that we can turn to in case of an emergency situation - especially on the big events.

*moderators, please sticky this / thank you

It's not something you want to think about, but this is a great idea just in case things get ugly.

Good info to know

As for your first responders and who they are at each event, You will know who they are pretty darn quick. IMHO

Dont think any would just sit back and just watch anything go down.

It's a good point,

another thing to do is get the direct number and location to the local emergency services for that specific area and the local fire/police number...

when calling 911 from a cell phone, it automatically routes to CHP, then needs to be rerouted...  not a terrible thing, as sometimes that number needs to be called too as to notify other services like a private ambulance service, but

just might make a minute or two difference,  and sometimes that's everything....

We do this with all HOW events,,,

I had a coworker go into full-on diabetic seizures once while we were commuting.  Even if I had a fancy phone I wouldn't have been able to look while driving and trying to prevent her from flopping around.  I was glad I knew the area.

Good thread, Joel.

Great thread and good mind set for sure - know what to do and what your options are before any problems ever arise.

I'll be at GS7, I'm an ACLS, PALS, and CPR certified ICU nurse. I've been in about 20 full code situations at work...never experienced anything in the field to date. I would highly recommend everyone take a CPR class - it could be the best time investment you ever make especially if you're ever faced with such a need for a family member...imagine having a loved one in trouble and not knowing what to do.

CPR at its best requires a team of knowledgeable participants. The more CPR certified members in NCKA the better.

Of course there are many possible emergencies that might arise that aren't CPR related (but might head in that direction if not handled properly). From minor cuts, dehydration, stuck hooks, hypothermia, etc., etc.

Communication is key as time is your enemy during a code. I believe Eric is holding a safety meeting prior to to GS7 (the evening before) which would be a great time to talk about communication out on the water.
