Me and a pal intend to do a training swim from Treasure Island to Pier 14 on Sunday morning.  We could really use a yak pilot.

Plan is to rally at Pier 14 ~0830, park Car #1 on embarcadero.  Drive Car #2 together over to TI, load gear, swim/paddle to Car #1.  Recover from hypothermia, then take Car #1 back to Car #2.

If you want, you can test paddle my: 1) adventure; 2) T11; or 3) OK Caper.

Thx in advance!

Sorry "Joe", just saw your email this morning -- too much spam on that email & don't check it much.
Don't think I can make it Sunday. Just check the tides before going, you don't wanna end up at Alcatraz.

Someone help out aquaman here -- it's an nice paddle from TI to Embarcadero.
Catch & Repeat

How long does it take to swim that distance? High tide this Sunday is at 10:40am.

I might be interested in that paddle. What do you need the yak pilot to do?

I can't make Sunday but if I may offer some advice. Make sure to time it for slack tide, bay currents are pretty strong and you don't want to get swept away with max ebb or flow. I am assuming the two (is two correct, more swimmers would be crazy) swimmers are of equal ability and even then one kayak is pushing it in terms of safe coverage Make sure the kayaker has a VHF and a flag, a bullhorn would be pretty good too.Is this a swim with wetsuits?

To launch, we portage over the west-facing seawall and put in on the rocks = Easy.  Then paddle in pace with us as we swim.  Really just acting as our "buoy" to flag oncoming boat traffic.

We are catching the back end of a slight incoming but no need to vector that hard when we put in.  Both of us are fit and cold tolerant, i.e, no rescues.

Have done this launch and swim several times without incident.  Distance is 1.8 to 2.3 miles and ~ 45 mins.  Def < 1 hour.
