Never heard of that site but if it's true that's one heck of a deal. My last Party boat cod trip was 100 bucks.

Randy's is a well know quality outfit on the Wharf in Monterey. I purchased this last year and had until October to use the coupon. It's not a coupon that is good on only certain trips so there is no pack-em in like sardines. This is a good deal if you want to go out on a party boat..

Best to go midweek and make a dash for the bow of the boat.

For the bow??  Why?

I've always had better luck on the back.  The ride is smoother and I don't get sea sick that way....

BTW, I saw that travelzoo deal and really thought about it.  Now with the positive reports, might just plop down my money.

I went a couple of times last year, its your basic party boat experience. Great for bringing first timers, kids, or if you don't feel like hauling your kayak on the salt and cleaning it later. And watch out for the rooks that will tangle your lines. Best spot on the boat is away from them!

I found the stern has more room for lines to tangle and usually the unseasoned groups of people gather there.  Just what I have found.  I ride in the rear but set up fishing claim on the bow.

I went last year 2x last year,  once salmon, once rock fish.

I was a little disappointed with the rock fish fishing, just in the fact that they did not really travel (spend the gas) to go more than 2 miles (10 minutes) out side the harbor. I could have paddled there easily. We had a full boat, which was fine, but not many rock fish caught, for a rockfish trip.

Salmon was what is to be expected while salmon fishing from a party boat, no complaints there.

Just my 2 cents but your better off paying 2x the price to do a fallen island trip, on any of the other boats

I grew up on boats run out of Chris', still on the wharf. Randy's was the competition, heh. Never heard anything really bad about them. Didn't run too many rockfish trips on them though, mostly salmon. You learn to spot the new guys and stay away. I usually was on the side rail closer to the bow. Doesn't hurt if you are on first name basis with the captain though.

+1.

On the RF trip, we drifted in the same non productive area over and over catching small RF.  I released most of mine as they were so small, I felt bad taking them although others were happy to catch something.  What really bothered me was the last 3 hours spent drifting over an area that was simply not producing any fish.  Any other charter boat would have moved from my past experiences.

As for the salmon trip, not much to complain about other than their deckhand Josh.  He's a real dick.  My buddy and I had a double hookup, then a third guy next to me says he's tangled.  This deckhand shoves my buddy out of the way and says, "you don't have a fish" and proceeds to help the 3rd guy.  Well, it ended up that all 3 of us had a fish on and luckily, we were able to net all 3.  But the fact that the deckhand didn't even bother to look/help my buddy net his fish because he was so busy being rude kind of rubbed me the wrong way.

Here's the best part, they cancelled a RF trip on us so they can do an albacore trip.  They never called us to notify us of changes...all they said was "oops, we should have called you."

I guess I just had one too many bad encounters with these guys.   Sorry for the rant.
